God’s Protection is Through The Wave

Is this crazy…or courageous obedience?

I was watching a show about Coast Guard rescue training, and one moment stopped me in my tracks.

The veteran instructor said:

“You don’t steer clear of the biggest wave. You drive into it. Head-on. Or you’ll flip the boat and lose everyone on board.”

They’re trained to face massive, terrifying waves without hesitation. Because if they’re too slow or come at the wave sideways, the boat capsizes. The crew dies. And the people they were sent to save? Never rescued.

They have to head straight toward the thing that looks wildly unsafe in order to BE safe. And to help someone else be saved.

Think about that.

It hit me how much this mirrors the life of faith.

How often do we wait for calmer seas?

How often do we hesitate, hoping the storm will pass on its own?

But what if God’s not asking us to wait it out?

What if He’s asking us to face it head-on? Not recklessly, but with Spirit-led courage?

Sometimes God calls us to do the one thing that makes no earthly sense:

Face it. Drive straight in.

No story exemplifies this more than David and Goliath. David was puny compared to Goliath. Yet the Bible says that David RAN toward the battle line to meet Goliath. (I Samuel 17:48)

The smallest warrior of the Israelite army ran toward the biggest, most skilled warrior of the Philistine army without hesitation.

David had faith that God would use all the wisdom from past battles with lions and bears to easily win the present battle.

And God did just that.

David received his own rewards but he also saved the entire nation of Israel from becoming Philistine slaves.

Another example is Esther.

When her cousin Mordecai told her to go to the king to let him know about the plot against the Jews, initially she was terrified.

Mordecai helped her realize that her royal position was for this very purpose! To save her people. So she fasted and prayed, then went to the king. God granted her favor with the king and the plot to kill them all was foiled.

Be honest with yourself for a moment:

What if the reason you feel like you keep getting hit by waves is because you won't face them head on?

You keep avoiding them. Trying to steer around them. So they capsize your boat.

Stop avoiding what God wants you to face without hesitation!

Courage isn't the absence of fear. It’s obeying anyway.
Because God’s presence is stronger than the wave you’re facing.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.”
– Isaiah 43:2

The other question is this:

Who else is affected because you won't go straight into the wave? With the Coast Guard, the boat is destroyed, the crew dies, and the people in need of saving are never rescued.

We are not the only ones affected by disobedience or delayed obedience.

God has specific destinations for you that you'll never arrive at if you don't charge through that wave.

And there are some very precious people on the other side of that wave that need you. You need to get there for their safety and your own.

The safest place to be is always the center of God's will even if that's in the middle of what looks like a terrifying storm.

The world would tell you: stay safe, stay on the shore.

God's telling you: My Divine protection is straight through that wave.

If this spoke to you, take 2 minutes right now:

  • Name the wave you’ve been avoiding.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what “driving into it” looks like today.

  • Then take one step in bold, faith-fueled obedience.

What wave are you being called to face?

In passionate purpose,

Dorothy
