Wind Can Either Make You Hide OR Soar…Your Choice

What comes to mind if I asked you what you think of wind?

Probably nothing good.

Messy hair, important papers flying out of your hand that you need to chase down, or if you’re anything like me, retrieving your garbage can because somehow it has blown down to the end of your street after pickup.

We think of storms, loss, damage.

Storms have a tendency to bring out fear.

We want to protect ourselves from the wind.

But what if we viewed it differently?

Birds hide from the wind. But not eagles.

They lean into the wind.

They stretch their wings wide and let the powerful updraft lift them higher than they could ever fly on a calm day.

The very wind that sends other birds into hiding becomes the thing that carries the eagle upward.

And I think there’s a spiritual lesson in that.

Because the same thing happens in our lives.

The pressure.
The uncertainty.
The resistance.
The situations that make us want to retreat, shut down, or play small.

Those are often the exact places where God intends to lift us.

Not because the wind feels good.

But because lift requires resistance.

Scripture hints at this over and over again.

In Isaiah 40:31 we’re told:

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.…”

There are things you can only see from certain vantage points.

Darkness needs to fall if you want to see the beauty of the moon and the stars.

Seeds have to be buried in order to sprout and grow into what they are meant to become.

The newness of spring can only be appreciated after winter.

And you can only soar from heights you’ve never known if there is a wind to lift you there.

Listen, I get it! I still pray for God to remove my storms at times.

But more often, now I ask Him to show me what He wants to produce through this storm.

What is He teaching me, showing me, revealing to me?

What is He trying to change IN me?

How could this wind be a “blessing” or a divine setup?

Remember: Life’s issues are an opportunity to invite God into them so He can transform them!!

Wind will either make you hide or soar.

The difference isn’t the wind.

The difference is how you engage with it.

Do you spend all your energy trying to escape it?

Or do you lean into God and allow Him to use the resistance to carry you somewhere you could never reach on your own?

Stop using up so much energy escaping the wind when God wants to use it to help you see things that are impossible to see any other way.

Maybe the very pressure you’re asking God to remove is the exact thing He wants to use to strengthen your faith, refine your character, and lift you into a perspective you’ve never had before.

Hit reply and let me know what “wind” you’re facing right now.

I’m praying for you. Praying that God reveals astounding things to you He shares with no one else through your circumstances. And that He opens your eyes to see a fresh and encouraging perspective as you soar.

In passionate purpose,

Dorothy
