A Warning About “Wanting” Answers Before Obeying

If you are anything like me, you like answers. You like stability. You don’t like too many surprises.

My husband has a saying, “Dorothy LOVES surprises, as long as she knows about them.” 😂

Let’s face it, we love step-by-step instructions, we love detailed maps, and we love it when things play out exactly like we planned. I mean we don’t even go to a restaurant anymore without Googling the menu!

That’s not the life God calls us to. And what’s more humbling and sobering, is that is not the life that pleases God.

Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please God. For anyone who approaches Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

If we had all the answers there would be no need for faith. There would be no need to SEEK Him.

God calls us to an adventure with Him.

When God called Abraham He said to a land I WILL show you. FUTURE tense. Abraham didn’t have much to go on, he went by faith.

Romans 4:3

For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Wow, I want that, don’t you?

We have to believe, have faith, and lean NOT on our own understanding.

Sometimes, we have to take risks for the glory of God without knowing what the outcome will be.

Here’s another sobering thought:

Wanting to know all the answers is what got Eve to eat the fruit off the tree that God told her not to. She didn’t trust that God was all she needed and that He would withhold no good thing from her.

God tells us to gain wisdom and understanding, so I'm not saying don’t seek answers.

I’m saying, there are times when God wants us to trust and obey without knowing all the answers because the only KNOWING you need is that God will use it all for your good.

And not knowing everything is for our protection. But it’s also an adventure because God wants to teach each of us different facets of Himself.

The outcome is God’s responsibility, faith and trust are ours.

So how do we have faith and trust?

We remember God's character.

He is faithful.

Just.

All knowing.

He is love.

He promises to work out all things for our good and He CANNOT lie so then at some point, it has to happen. We don’t get to know the “when” until it happens.

What is God calling you to do without knowing all the answers?

In passionate purpose,

Dorothy
